The Haitian Government with the Government of China Taiwan, signed Friday a memorandum of 7.8 million dollars to build a hospital of the Insurance Agency for Occupational Accidents, Illness, and Maternity (OFATMA) in Les Cayes, a school and social housing.

In his speech for the occasion, Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe declared "...the ceremony of today is on the Memorandum of Agreement, concerning the construction of the hospital of the OFATMA, of the school Charles Lasègue and social housing in the Southern Department, mainly in the city of Les Cayes.

May I be allowed to ask you to transmit to the Government and people of Taiwan, the thanks of the President of the Republic, His Excellency Mr. Michel Martelly and of all the Haitian people for this gesture of fraternity and solidarity to Haiti.

I especially want to commend the dynamic leadership of Ambassador Liu Bang-Zyh and his remarkable commitment to working with our Government, to facilitate the implementation of major development projects and of quick impact on the institutions of the Republic [...]

With the new construction of the hospital OFATMA of Les Cayes, after the reconstruction of the Ministry of Interior to the old location of the DGI, it shows that Haiti is firmly committed to the path of the reconstruction. The establishment of this infrastructure, will in a concrete and sustainable manner, realize one of the wishes of the President of the Republic, which was to improve the living conditions and the sanitary conditions in the city of Les Cayes.

The city of Les Cayes is therefore in the spotlight today with the construction of this hospital and of this school. This funding of $7.8 million, made ​​available to the Haitian Government, comes in addition to efforts already devoted by the Republic of China Taiwan. Haiti, in the next week, will become a vast construction site, we will begin to rebuild our roads, build our infrastructure, rebuilding the ministries.

I want to take this opportunity to announce that the next Government Council will be held in the city of Les Cayes, this to emphasize the government's commitment to the development of provincial towns and to the decentralization [...] we can no longer have the 'Republic of Port-au-Prince', but, but we must have the state of Haiti and the development of provincial towns..."
