Haiti - Diplomacy : Laurent Lamothe congratulates the election of Mrs. Zuma at the head of the AU

The Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe Salvador, in a statement released in Addis Ababa this morning congratulated the victory of Mrs. Zuma at the head of the African Union. This note was circulated to 2.000 delegates by Mr. Ady Jean Gardy, Minister of Communications and Special Envoy to Haiti with the African Union (AU).

The Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe in its press release, which had a great response this morning in Africa, applauds the fact that the election of Mrs. Dlamini-Zuma is unusual for several reasons. According to him, is the first time a woman becomes President of the Executive Commission of the AU, and the first time that this position falls to a great continental power, South Africa, which is opened to a strengthening of its direct cooperation with Haiti.

For the Prime Minister, this victory is both that of South Africa bringing back unity to the whole of Africa while opening the doors to the African Diaspora, mainly that of Haiti, the first black country outside Africa, to demand a full membership to the African Union and for which of Amendments of the Constitution of the Union, are considered.

The Prime Minister recalled in its press release that Haiti, already member of the G20, of Brics (Group of Emerging Powers) and who applies for the future permanent seat of Africa to the Security Council of the UN, will be able with this new position, further support the ambitions of Haiti of a participation to the global governance, a term dear to the Minister Ady Jean Gardy who discussed this idea with Mrs. Zuma to Addis Ababa this morning.

According to the Special Envoy to Haiti with the African Union, Laurent Lamothe said he was ready to work closely with the new Presidency of the African Union and, keen to use the presence of Haiti within the organization, to establish political and economic proximity links with the 54 African States on behalf of the Haitian solidarity.
