Haiti - Education : Nearly 200 graduates in construction trades

Friday, July 13, 194 students, including 34 women, aged 15-24 years from disadvantaged areas of the capital, have been graduates of the Vocational Training Pilot Centre (CPFP) of Port-au-Prince, after having received a training of 8 months [October 5, 2011 to June 5, 2012] in the construction trades: tile, plumbing, air conditioning, electrical and metal construction. They also received training in entrepreneurship.

Funded to the tune of 200,000 U.S. dollars, this training is an initiative of the Division of Community Violence Reduction (CVR) of the Minustah in partnership with the CPFP located in Drouillard [near Cite Soleil].

A second similar training for a new group of students is scheduled for October. According to the Section of the RVC, these training projects are aimed to distance the young people in vulnerable neighborhoods of Port-au-Prince, Gonaives and Cap Haitien, of the violence and the influence of gangs, while contributing to the creation of job opportunities.
