Haiti - Politic : The Government is preparing to revoke 120 mayors...

Friday, Me Thierry Mayard-Paul, the Minister of Interior and Local Authorities, to Les Cayes confirmed, before the press the imminent revocation of almost all the 120 mayors elected in 2006, whose terms expired in 2011. According to the Minister "the order ruling on this issue is ready. The publication will be done shortly [...]," adding that " This political decision was taken at the governmental level in order to promote inclusive elections in the country." Elections that the government wants to organize in November 2012. However, one rumor suggests that some mayors, including that of Delmas Wilson Jeudy, can remain in office...

Earlier this week, Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, had assured about this, that this decision was taken after extensive consultations with various political stakeholders, insisting on the continuation of dialogue to avoid misunderstandings of this decision "There was a consultation in an inclusive way [...] this is the best decision."

Our correspondent of Petit-Goâve, Guyto Mathieu inform us that Yves Lindor, one of the mayors assessors of City Council of Petit-Goâve, did not wait to be dismissed but resigned from his post, Thursday, July 5, 2012 stating : "I took this decision because I did not feel comfortable as Acting executive agent. I prefer to leave rather than let me remove by the Government in place [...]"
