Haiti - Health : A tribute to nurses, a profession chosen by vocation...

The Faculty Lumière des Sciences infirmières (MEBLH), the School of Nursing of Petit-Goâve (ECIP) and the Institute of Higher Education in Administrative Sciences applied (IFSA) have teamed up to celebrate, in Petit-Goâve, the International Day of Nurses, celebrated annually worldwide, on May 12.

Various activities have been organized for this day [Mass of thanks, panel discussion, cultural activities of students...] On this day, the emphasis was placed on the importance of the nursing profession, the vocation and the role of nurses in hospitals alongside doctors in difficult working conditions...

Miss Rose-Anne Rosias, Head of MEBLH, pleaded in favor of the valuation and respect of the nursing profession "nurses, be proud and worthy of your profession," she declared encouraging students and nurses to well understand the meaning of their profession. "That we does not choose this profession to get money, you will not be rich. It's a job that we must choose by vocation... You will provide care to everyone, rich and poor without distinction [...] Today, we celebrate with our conscience, we must act in a way to put to the the profession, and another image ans make change the living conditions and work of nurses."

For her part, Miss Nadege Antoine, the speaker of the day recalled the history of the World Day of Nurses and showed their importance "Nurses work from January 1 to December 31 at midnight ... [...] Caregiving, is the task of your noble profession [...] Anyone who can not be nurse it takes a lot of knowledge because the Nursing has three aspects: the gestural, the cognitive and the emotional [...] your profession requires a lot of sacrifices, it is the patient that counts, it's not the money [...] your uniform mark the purity and the holiness and your mission is to conserve the patient's health and help physicians. The nurse can do anything, even with a smile wa can cure, because health is a harmonious interaction of the person with the environment [...] This is to the nurses to make recognize the value of their profession [...] we must have the spirit of sacrifice and vocation..."

In his speech, Miss Gibbs, Head nurses at the hospital Notre Dame of Petit-Goâve, advised the nurses present to seek to increase their competence and their technical "Deepen your knowledge and expertise, take your books, searching on the net rather than watching soap operas on TV, you will find satisfaction through patient recovery [...] You must have a competitive spirit, learn other disciplines such as law, computer science, management... Continue your training, you are leaders in your neighborhood, everyone has their eyes on you. You are priceless..."
