Haiti - Reconstruction : Strengthening of commercial trade between the Miami-Dade County and Haiti

Carlos Gimenez, the Mayor of Miami-Dade accompanied by the County Commissioner Jean Monestime [first Haitian-American elected to the County Commission], is in Haiti for 48 hours, in order to strengthen exchanges and trade between the Miami-Dade County and Haiti.

During his stay, the Mayor will meet with representatives of the Embassy of the United States, the Ministries of Planning and Foreign Affairs. An agreement should be signed between the Miami International Airport and the Toussaint Louverture International Airport in Port-au-Prince to promote the traffic of freight and passengers between the two airports. In addition, as part of this agreement, officials of the Miami International Airport, will provide technical and logistical support to their Haitian counterparts and exchange information, including statistical data, marketing research and plans for airport infrastructure.

For the Mayor Gimenez, whose is the first visit to Haiti "With the large number of Haitian-Americans we have living in Miami-Dade, I think it is important that I see what the conditions are there and how we can help them."
