Haiti - Culture : Week of Puppets

At the heart of arts of the puppet is found a gesture known by all children, that to animate an inanimate object. The puppet is present in all cultures. In the popular tradition, it is very often itinerant, traveling from village to fairs and through the antics, slides more often than not towards the social criticism. It is also the narrator of the great epics where are combined history and mythology of the peoples. To make better know this art, the Fokal organizes the Week of Puppets (shows, activities, exhibitions, movie).

Program of the Week of Puppets :

Monday 23 to Saturday, May 5 - 10:00 am : (Atrium and forecourt of the Fokal)

The World of Puppets. Through text and photographs, the exhibition traces the history of the puppet through the centuries. It takes us on a world tour singular to help us discover the great traditions of puppet theater in the world and thus allows to locate the Haitian puppet in a broader context. It also proposes to meet the Haitian puppets of Carline Colagène and Ernst St Rome.
