Haiti - Politic : The President of Colombia, concerned at the highest point by Haiti
The President of Colombia, Mr. Juan Manuel Santos, host of the sixth "Summit of the Americas" held in Cartagena [April 14 and 15], in the presence of international delegations of American countries, called on his counterparts to strengthen their cooperation with the government of Haiti to help it to resolve its various problems. The President of Colombia has indicated further, that he felt concerned at the highest point by the problems experienced by Haiti "We must improve our cooperation with Haiti. So far, each country cooperates with Haiti according to their own limitations and their interests, by obtaining results more or less successful"
The President Santos also believes, that the aid to Haiti by the American countries should be part of a plan that truly reflects the needs of Haiti. "We have previously acted alone. And we missed the most important priorities of the Haitian people. We must appropriate the agenda of its government and integrate it into our actions. We must cooperate in unity with the government of Haiti to be able to overcome its problems. We can not accept that Haiti can keep its frustrations during the next summit," declared the Head of the Colombian state.
The President Martelly, who was unable to travel to the summit for health reasons, nevertheless follows its course from Haiti. The Head of State thanked his Colombian counterpart for his words of encouragement and of support to the benefit of Haiti. "The President Santos has shown that it is concerned about the situation of our country. He showed a great political vision by proposing a joint action of all the American countries to join us for the reconstruction and development of our country and the improvement of living conditions of the Haitian people. His vision is consistent with the policy decisions that we take both at the level of the Presidency than of the Government."
