Haiti - Diplomacy : The President of the Republic expresses his sadness following the death of his counterpart of Malawi

Michel Martelly, the President of the Republic, learned with sadness the news of the death of the President of the Republic of Malawi, Mr. Bingu Wa Mutharika, following a heart attack, this Friday, April 6, 2012.

The Head of State joins its voice to that of the people and Government of Haiti to express its deepest sympathies to the members and friends of the family of President Mutharika, to the officials of the Government of the Republic of Malawi and the Malawian people.

In these painful circumstances, the President of the Republic fervently hope that the political transition can be achieved in a peaceful climate and serene as a tribute to the memory of the leader disappeared.

Mr. Bingu Wa Mutharika was elected in 2004 and reelected in May 2009. After his death, on April 6, he was replaced by the Vice-President of the Republic, Joyce Banda.
