Haiti - Reconstruction : $200 million of subsidies for Haiti in 2012

Subsidies from the Interamerican Development Bank (IDB) to the tune of $200 million will go to Haiti this year for its recovery efforts. The United States, who are members of the IDB, have proposed to the latter to commit to provide annual subsidies to Haiti for a period of 10 years.

The funds granted in 2012 will contribute to rebuild schools, develop private enterprises and projects in the sectors of energy and agriculture, creating public transit and ensure water supply and sanitation services.

In 2011, the funding provided by the Interamerican Development Bank has allowed to open 800 temporary classrooms, to build and repair 160 km of roads and to vaccinate 50% of farmers in Haiti against swine flu and other diseases.
