Haiti - Culture : Haitian art seen by our women

Sophia Martelly, the First Lady of Haiti, inaugurated Thursday, March 8, 2012, the collective exhibition of 32 women artists at the Gallery of the of the exhibition of the National Museum of the Pantheon (MUPANAH), on the theme: "Haitian art seen by our women."

Among them, the pioneers of contemporary Haitian art, such as Luce Turnier, Rose Marie Desruisseau, Hilda Williams, Tamara Baussan, Andrée Naudée, Marie José Nadal, Michèle Manuel, also artists with naive works such as Louisiane St Fleurant, Louisiane Lubin, etc...

Organized on the occasion of International Women's Day and the Fortnight of the Francophonie, this exhibition initiated by the MUPANAH, and supported by the Presidency, aims to honor women's representative, with the a talent confirmed, All the works which is manifested the Haitian modernity, has, according the Conservator and Exhibition Commissioner, Michèle Gardère Frisch, a retrospective look where the desire to tell is clearly expressed.

In a message on the occasion, and which is displayed at the opening of the show, Sophia Martelly, stressed the importance of the regard of women in the modern society. This day, is according to here an appropriate time to finding solutions to improve the conditions of each of Haitian women.

Ms. Martelly believes that women are the guarantors of education, of the emotional balance of the family, that they are the real promoters of the informal economy. This is why their place in the whole work of the Office of the First Lady is fundamental.

The Exhibition "Haitian art seen by our women" will remain open until April 8, 2012, at the Museum of the National Pantheon.
