Haiti - Social : 15,189 Haitians back to the border in 2011

From January to December 2011, DR authorities have repatriated 15,189 undocumented Haitian nationals, 9,666 at the border crossing of Belladère in the Central Plateau, 5,428 at the border of Ounaminthe-Dajabon (figures collected by "Solidarity Fwontalyè" based in Ouanaminthe and 95 at the border post of Malpasse (figures collected by the Support Group for Refugees and Repatriated (GARR)). On all of our fellow returnees in 2011, there were 1.923 women and 95 children.

At the time the Haitian Parliament has ratified the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, the GARR urges the Haitian authorities to be more concerned of the economic rights of migrants and returnees and the observance of the commitments taken by the Dominican State through the 1999 Protocol.

This Protocol signed by governments of Haiti and of Dominican Republic, prohibits nocturnal repatriation and makes the obligation to the Dominbican Republic to let to the returnees the opportunity to to recover their goods ; two points rarely respected by our neighbors Dominicans...
