Haiti - Education : Training Workshop on rights and obligations of IDPs 17/02/2012 07:30:47
Forty residents, of IDP Camp Jean-Marie Vincent [Port-au-Prince] including central committee members and the leaders of blocks of the camp, attended a training workshop, initiated on February 14 by the sections Justice and Human Rights and the Office of Communications and Public Information of the Minustah to discuss "ways of bringing cases to court". This workshop aimed to increase awareness and understand the functioning of Haitian judicial system and to deepen their knowledge on access to justice. Frantz Gilot and Alex Clédanor, key stakeholders in the Justice section, have defined what constitutes an infringement and presented its components, before classifying them by severity (violation, misdemeanor and felony) then reviewed the different types of complaints. For Nehemiah, a resident of the camp, the importance of this workshop is justified by the fact that "as a citizen, I will feel better equipped on my rights and duties. I also know what body contact in case of breach of my rights " This is the second of a series of sessions programmed for residents of IDP camps, the first being held at Camp Coral Cease-Lesse, in January.
