Haiti - FLASH : The DPC calls on the population to be vigilant

On Friday, October 23, 2026, Haiti’s Hydrometeorological Unit (UHM), in coordination with the General Directorate of Civil Protection (DGPC) and the Permanent Secretariat for Risk and Disaster Management (SPDRD), maintained a Yellow Alert for heavy rain and thunderstorms in the Grand'Anse, South, Nippes, and South-East departments.

It should be noted that the West department has been downgraded to a Green Alert.

These adverse weather conditions may bring heavy rainfall and wind gusts ranging from 40 to 60 kilometers per hour, starting today, Friday, and continuing through tomorrow, Saturday, October 24. Rainfall totals could reach 80 to 100 millimeters every six (6) hour, or even more, particularly in mountainous areas. This situation is likely to cause flash floods and landslides.

The Civil Protection Directorate (DPC) urges the public to follow these recommendations :

▪️ Monitor weather bulletins and instructions from the authorities;

▪️ Avoid non-essential travel in high-risk areas;

▪️ Do not cross swollen watercourses or flooded roads;

▪️ Secure your home and prepare an emergency kit.
