Haiti - 220th Anniversary of Jean-Jacques Dessalines : Floral Offering and Reflection Ceremony

On October 17, 2026, as part of the commemoration of the 220th anniversary of the assassination of Jean-Jacques Dessalines, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, accompanied by members of the government, laid a wreath at the Museum of the Haitian National Pantheon (MUPANAH) before the bust of Emperor Jacques I, in homage to the Father of the Nation, founder of Haiti.

A minute of silence, followed by the sounding of the Last Post, marked this solemn tribute to the Founding Father of the Nation. In the silence of remembrance and the gravity of this moment, the Nation bowed before the memory of the man who dedicated his life to the freedom and emancipation of the Haitian people.

These moments were followed by a guided tour of the Museum's historical and artistic gallery. At the end of the guided tour, the Prime Minister recorded the following message in the MUPANAH guestbook "On this day of remembrance, I bow before the memory of Emperor Jean-Jacques Dessalines, Founding Father of our Nation. Let us honor his sacrifice; it is to keep alive his ideal of liberty, sovereignty, and dignity. Let's draw from his courage the strength to unite and give every Haitian a nation at peace, proud and strong."

At the National Palace, during the commemorative ceremony for the 220th anniversary of the death of Emperor Jean-Jacques Dessalines, Founding Father of the Haitian Nation, the Head of Government called for a national awakening to restore the authority of the State, combat impunity, restore security, and bring peace to the entire territory. Onore Dessalines, se pa sèlman fè bèl diskou chak 17 oktòb. Se pran angajman pou fè vizyon l lan vivan epi pote revandikasyon pèp la sou zepòl nou,, insisted the Prime Minister, calling for concrete actions in the service of the population.
