Haiti - Education : Continuing education for approximately fifty school inspectors

On Friday, October 9, 2026, the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP), through the West Departmental Directorate of Education, organized a training session in Pétion-Ville for approximately fifty school inspectors. The theme of the session was "Pedagogical and Administrative Supervision".

At the opening of the seminar, Étienne Louisseul France, West Departmental Director of Education, described the training day as essential. According to him, ongoing professional development for school inspectors is imperative to ensure the quality of teaching and learning, as well as the smooth operation of schools. The training, led by Inspectors Guiteau Francois, Asselhomme Saintil, and Bien-Aimé Point-Dujour, focused on pedagogical supervision, the role of the inspector, supporting the pedagogical director, and pedagogical observation.

Positioned between the central administration and schools, Etienne Louiseul France emphasized the crucial role of inspection in educational monitoring, the evaluation of teaching practices, and the support of school principals. In this regard, he urged inspectors to always demonstrate rigor, objectivity, discernment, and a strong sense of responsibility.

Harry Moncoeur, one of his deputies, echoed this sentiment, reiterating the importance of the inspectors' work within the education system : "Their role is threefold. First, they ensure compliance with standards and current curricula. Second, they evaluate teaching practices and school performance to identify strengths and areas for improvement. Finally, they advise and support teachers and school principals, promoting the sharing of best practices and the continuous improvement of teaching."

According to Moncoeur, this role requires constantly evolving skills : mastery of pedagogical approaches, observation and evaluation techniques, human resource management, analysis of school data, and the use of digital tools.

Claudin St-Jour, speaking in his capacity as Director of Training and Professional Development, framed this training day as part of an effort to strengthen the professional skills of administrators. "You are well aware that the quality of education depends, to a large extent, on the quality of teaching provided in our classrooms. And this quality cannot be sustainably improved without effective, regular, constructive, and student-centered pedagogical supervision," he stated, while noting that inspectors work to create conditions conducive to the professional development of teachers and the implementation of the Ministry's pedagogical guidelines.
