Michel Martelly, the President of the Republic, officially named the American actor Sean Penn as a Ambassador at large for Haiti during a ceremony at the National Palace Tuesday, January 31, 2012.

Sean Penn was honored for its relief work in Haiti following the January 12, 2010. On January 14, 2012 his foundation "J/P Haitian Relief Organization" has received five million U.S. dollars at the Hotel Montage everly Hills, California, at the "Cinema For Peace Los Angeles 2012". Hollywood celebrities such as Demi Moore, Melanie Griffith, George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Orlando Bloom, Mel Gibson and Cheryl Mills, Chief of Staff to U.S. Secretary of State Secretary Hillary Clinton, took part in this activity.

The President said Martelly believe in the will of the new ambassador to continue to help give a new image to Haiti. He took the opportunity to invite other personalities from abroad to follow the example of Mr. Penn, which will be a plus to the struggle to provide a better life for the Haitian people.

For his part, Sean Penn thanked the Head of State and promised its support through J/P HRO, his foundation working in the social in Haiti.

The appointment of Sean Penn as a Ambassador at large for Haiti is a way to thank him but also to give him the opportunity to contribute to the struggle of the government to provide a better life for the people, to invite investors to come invest in Haiti and provide a new image of Haiti.

For his part the Foreign Minister, Laurent Lamothe, declared "...the Government of Haiti is honored to be here today with Sean Penn to tell him thank you, thank you for the victims of Delmas 32 that he has so affectionately, with all his heart, he gave his heart, he gave his time, he came from Malibu to Delmas 32 to take care of our brothers and sisters who have been affected by the earthquake. We say Sean Penn thank you. You've done some things that very few people in the world did. And now you're Ambassador is a small token of our appreciation of what you are doing for Haiti and the Haitian people."
