On Friday, September 18th and Saturday, September 19th, the Ministry of the Interior and Territorial Communities (MICT) organized a workshop dedicated to preventive measures and the fight against local insecurity.

This workshop brought together mayors from the metropolitan area, high-ranking officers of the National Police, security experts, and members of the Gang Supression Force (GSF).

Its main objective was to equip mayors with concrete tools enabling them to better fulfill their responsibilities regarding municipal security, while ensuring compliance with the law. Discussions focused in particular on the development of Municipal Security Plans.

Furthermore, the workshop also addressed strengthening coordination between local authorities, government commissioners, and law enforcement, particularly in the prevention of and fight against organized crime.

This two-day workshop was chaired by the Secretary of State for Local Government, Ms. Sharina Lochard, who commended the mayors' commitment and reaffirmed the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Decentralization (MICT), under the leadership of Minister Paul Antoine Bien-Aimé, to strengthen local government participation in efforts to prevent crime and protect the population.

This workshop also follows up on consultations initiated by the Ministry with the Interim Executive Agents and representatives of the GSF regarding the need for collective, structured, and coordinated action on the ground.

Through this initiative, the MICT intends to contribute to restoring security and the free movement of people and goods, while fostering the necessary conditions for holding elections and for economic recovery, in accordance with Prime Minister Fils-Aimé's roadmap.
