FLASH GSF : Chadian reinforcement contingent arrives In a statement, the Gang Suppression Force (GSF) confirms the arrival in Haiti of a new military contingent from Chad on Thursday, September 17, 2026. This contingent reinforces the 400-strong force from Chad that has been in Haiti since April 2026. For tactical and strategic reasons, the size of this new contingent is classified as confidential. It is worth noting that Chad has committed to providing a total force of 1,500 troops to the FRG. Public holiday in Haiti Citing Articles 1 and 2 of the Decree of December 11, 2024, which precisely define legal holidays, Marie E. Régine Joseph Haddad, Secretary General of the Presidency, wishes to inform public servants and the private sector that public administration, commerce, industry, and schools will be closed throughout the country on September 20, 2026—the birthday of Dessalines (born September 20, 1758, in Grande-Rivière-du-Nord). Taiwanese Ambassador HU Cheng-hao visits Cap-Haitien HU Cheng-hao, the Ambassador of Taiwan (Republic of China), traveled to Cap-Haïtien on September 18, 2026, at the invitation of Minister of the Environment Valéry Fils-Aime, to attend the closing ceremony of the project titled "Support for gender-sensitive local development integrating climate change adaptation". This project, funded by the Government of Taiwan, aims to improve the urban living environment by fostering social inclusion and integrating principles of gender equality into community development, thereby helping to jointly address the challenges posed by climate change. ONA : Conclusion of the National Forum On Friday, September 18, 2026, at the Karibe Convention Center, the National Old-Age Insurance Office (ONA) concluded the National Forum on the modernization of Haiti’s general pension system following three days of discussions. In her closing remarks, Ms. Lovely François, Director General of the ONA, pledged that the recommendations resulting from the forum would be analyzed, structured, and transformed into concrete proposals. They will serve as the foundation for two major initiatives: the strategic plan to strengthen the ONA’s institutional capacity and the framework document for the reform and consolidation of Haiti’s general pension system. FAd’H : 144 Soldiers Head to Mexico The General Staff Secretariat of the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAd’H) announced the departure on Friday, September 18, 2026, of a contingent of 114 military personnel to Mexico, under the terms of bilateral cooperation agreements and technical and tactical training programs established with the Mexican armed forces. This training mission aims to enhance the operational skills of the troops while reinforcing the standards of discipline, rigor, and professionalism within the institution. UNESCO: Closer ties between Haiti and Algeria Algeria’s Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, H.E. Abdelghani Merabet, was received by the Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of the Republic of Haiti to UNESCO, Lilas Desquiron, for a courtesy visit.
