The Ministry of the Environment (MoE), through the Directorate of Climate Change (DCC), organized, Thursday and Friday, September 4th, 2026, a sectoral table devoted to climate financing in Haiti.

This initiative aimed to strengthen the conditions necessary for an integrated approach to national development planning, by promoting better articulation between climate priorities and sectoral strategies.

The meeting brought together representatives of sectoral ministries, technical and financial partners, ecological organizations, NGOs as well as the private sector, around a central issue : better mobilizing and coordinating the resources necessary to finance climate action in Haiti.

At the opening of the work, Valéry Fils-Aimé the Minister of the Environment highlighted the gap between the scale of the environmental and climatic challenges facing the country and the financial resources currently mobilized "In Haiti, financial commitments are not up to the environmental challenges", he underlined, calling for greater mobilization and better adapted to the realities of the country.

The Minister also insisted on the need to go beyond the logic of commitments and announcements to direct funding more towards concrete, measurable interventions capable of producing results on the ground, particularly for the benefit of communities and sectors most exposed to the effects of climate change.

In his speech, he also welcomed the commitment of World Vision in efforts to support climate action in Haiti and underlined the importance of the contribution of partners who support national institutions and communities in the search for sustainable responses to the consequences of climate change.

Eng. Astrel Joseph, the Director General of the Ministry, took stock of the mobilization of financial resources devoted to climate action in Haiti, highlighting in particular the available resources and the financing gaps.

Raoul Vital presented the national ambitions in terms of climate finance, while Odré Valbrun spoke on the theme "Thinking about a national mechanism for coordinating climate action", in connection with the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) and the Strategic Framework for the Environment and Climate Action (CSEA).

At the end of the two days, the discussions and contributions from the different categories of stakeholders made it possible to lay the foundations of a reference framework for the development of a National Climate Finance Roadmap in order to better structure the country's efforts to mobilize, coordinate, administer and direct climate resources, consistent with national development priorities, Haiti's climate commitments and the resilience needs of territories and communities.
