CARICOM : Distinguished Figures in Haiti

On Wednesday, September 2, 2026, Chancellor Raina Forbin hosted a delegation from the CARICOM Distinguished Figures Group and held a working lunch with former Prime Ministers Kenny Anthony (Saint Lucia), Orette Bruce Golding (Jamaica), and Perry Christie (Bahamas), as well as CARICOM representatives, including Ambassador Colin Granderson, Deputy Secretary-General Elizabeth Solomon, and Anna-Lisa Jones-Reis, Project Officer at the CARICOM Secretariat. Also part of the delegation were Ambassador Jerusa Ali, Director General of the Bahamas Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Chargé d'Affaires of the Bahamas Julian Smith. Discussions focused on the political and security situation in Haiti, the progress of the electoral process, and the conditions necessary for holding free, credible, inclusive, and secure elections, as well as CARICOM's support for the efforts undertaken by the Haitian authorities.

The GSF Deploys in Downtown Port-au-Prince

A new phase of the deployment of the Gang Supression Force (GSF) is underway in downtown Port-au-Prince. GSF teams have been patrolling alongside the Haitian National Police (PNH) to familiarize themselves with the area and the zones usually secured by PNH units. As the GSF gradually takes over regular patrols, PNH members may be redeployed to support operations in Kenscoff.

Back to School and Psychosocial Support

With the start of the school year just days away, the Ministries of Public Health and National Education are strengthening their collaboration to support students who have suffered psychological trauma related to armed group violence. As part of the national mental health strategy in schools, 150 facilitators have already been trained and will soon be deployed to schools to provide local psychosocial support, according to the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP). The Ministry also plans to make psychologists, doctors, and nurses available to students.

Pan American Games : 5th Qualification for Our U-20 Grenadiers

From July 23 to August 8, 2027, Lima, Peru, will host the XX Pan American Games. Thanks to the excellent performance of the men's national team at the recent Concacaf U-20 Championship, Haiti has qualified and will return to the Pan American Games for the fifth time (1959, 1971, 1991, and 2007), twenty years after its last participation in 2007 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Kenscoff : Update on Displaced Persons

Update on displacement following armed violence in the municipality of Kenscoff (August 23-30, 2026). This violence primarily affected the localities of City Center, Vilier, Tête de l’Eau, and Morne Jean Jacques, located in the 3rd communal section of Sourcailles. In addition to the burning of numerous homes, kidnappings, and loss of life, these acts of violence displaced approximately 4,238 people (1,159 households). The majority of displaced people (79%) found refuge in the neighboring municipality of Pétion-ville, while 12% were resettled within Kenscoff and the remainder in other municipalities of the capital. Most displaced households (80%) were hosted by families, while the remaining 20% ​​settled in six sites, four of which already existed before these events and two of which were created in response to this new wave of displacement. These incidents demonstrate the continuing deterioration of the security situation in the municipality of Kenscoff, where nearly 6,000 people were already displaced in July 2026 following similar violence.

Haitian writer Thélyson, a rising star

The Ministry of Culture proudly recognizes the remarkable career of Haitian writer Thélyson Orélien, author of "C’était ça ou mourir" published by Boréal in March 2026, Grasset in August 2026, and soon to be published by C3 Editions in Haiti. Winner of the Prix Méduse, the Prix Strasbourg Espoir CIC, and shortlisted for the 2026 Prix Goncourt, Thélyson Orélien is a rising star of Haitian literature. His book "C’était ça ou mourir" has already been sold in more than twenty countries.
