Haiti - UNITECH : Creation of its first laboratory dedicated to cybersecurity and AI

The University of Technology of Haiti (UNITECH) has just announced the creation of its first laboratory dedicated to cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence (AI). This initiative aims to develop research, training, and collaboration activities in fields related to digital developments.

This laboratory is the result of international cooperation, bringing together experts from Tunisia, Canada (including the University of Quebec at Chicoutimi), and the National Advanced School of Engineering of Yaoundé, Cameroon.

Rector Josselin Val emphasized that this initiative aligns with UNITECH's mission to train human resources capable of supporting major technological shifts. He stressed the strategic importance of cybersecurity and artificial intelligence in the economic and institutional development of nations, as highlighted by cybersecurity specialist Valentin Bromont : "Hackers attack financial systems, steal confidential data, and develop tools capable of monitoring and protecting the Haitian financial system."

Thus, through this new structure, accessible to universities, public institutions, and the private sector, UNITECH aims to contribute to the development of applied research and the strengthening of skills in the fields of cybersecurity and artificial intelligence, taking into account the needs of Haiti and the Caribbean region.

The laboratory's activities will focus in particular on data protection, the security of digital infrastructures, the uses of artificial intelligence, and supporting organizations in the face of technological transformations.

The Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF-Caraïbe) is pleased to highlight the influence and dynamism of UNITECH. Its initiative illustrates the role of universities in supporting contemporary transformations by developing research, training, and innovation on strategic issues such as cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. As such, it fully reflects the AUF's strategic priorities for the coming years: digital transformation, generative artificial intelligence, and impact research.

Learn more about UNITECH :

The University of Technology of Haiti (UNITECH), a member of the AUF since 2023, is a private public service institution founded in 2007. Initially composed of three faculties, it now has eight faculties, 13 bachelor's degree programs, and two master's degree programs, welcoming nearly 3,000 students and 178 professors. UNITECH is also distinguished by the professional integration of its graduates, who are present in both the public and private sectors, as well as by the training provided by its Faculty of Nursing, recognized in particular through its clinical internships in Haiti and internationally.
