Young Nurse Killed

Kensa Joseph, a former student of Collège Frère Odile Joseph and a young nurse who graduated from ENIC, and who worked at the Immaculate Conception Hospital in Les Cayes (HIC), was shot and killed on August 13, 2026, in Derrière-Fort, Les Cayes. According to initial reports, she was shot in the abdomen during a dispute related to land recently acquired by her father. The situation reportedly escalated when individuals attempted to demolish the property's fence.

Germany Wants to Contribute to the GSF

Germany wants to contribute to the Gang Supression Force (GSF), approved by the United Nations Security Council. The Bundeswehr (Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Germany) is making air transport capacity available in the short term to the GSF in Haiti, which includes Chad, Sri Lanka, Mongolia, Bangladesh, Guatemala, and Côte d'Ivoire. According to the Federal Ministry of Defense, the Bundeswehr is to transport equipment and supplies for troops operating in Haiti in the coming weeks.

OAS/CARICOM : Statement by Me André Michel

"We are taking advantage of the presence of the OAS/CARICOM Delegation in Port-au-Prince to reiterate the need to restore a minimum level of security before the elections are held in Haiti. Unblocking the national highways remains the fundamental condition for holding the elections. Without a minimum level of security, armed gangs will win the elections. We cannot hold elections only to hand power back to armed gangs and their political allies. The international community and the government must assume their responsibilities. I will register to vote in Port-au-Prince this week. I urge my supporters, sympathizers, and members of the SDP to do the same. Security is essential for a successful electoral process. PM, Far From Official Speeches

On the sidelines of the inauguration of the National School of Marre-à-Coiffe, in the 5th communal section of Aquin, Prime Minister Fils-Aimé, far from official speeches, approached the students, listened to them, and spoke to them with simplicity and affection, like a father addressing his children. In their eyes, he saw much more than schoolchildren : he saw the future of Haiti. The Prime Minister reaffirmed a deep conviction : no Haitian child should be condemned to ignorance simply because they were born far from major urban centers. Every child has the right to knowledge, dignity, and hope. "Among these children may be those who will write the most beautiful pages of Haiti’s future."

Criminal Assizes : A First Since 2018

With the support of the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH), the Port-au-Prince Criminal Justice System Monitoring Committee held its regular meeting on August 13th to discuss progress and efforts undertaken to reduce prolonged pretrial detention and expedite case processing. Participants welcomed the recent holding of the criminal assizes in Port-au-Prince, the first since 2018, made possible thanks to the Committee’s coordination efforts. These advances contribute to reducing prison overcrowding and upholding the right of detainees to a fair trial. Participants reaffirmed the Committee’s essential role in strengthening coordination among actors in the criminal justice system and promoting access to justice. BINUH will continue to support these efforts toward a more effective and rights-respecting justice system.

5,000 households received multi-purpose financial assistance

Thanks to the support of OCHA Funds, within the framework of the Rezilyans Ayiti project, Plan International Haiti was able to assist 5,000 households in the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area by providing them with multi-purpose financial assistance, enabling them to purchase essential goods and meet their most urgent needs.
