Haiti - Social : Bill on social security for peasants

Senators from the commission of agriculture, presided by Senator Nènel Cassis, have met this week, the Minister of Social Affairs, Pierre Richelle Lafaille on a bill on social security for peasants. The Senator Nènel Cassis, believe that it is time that peasants have a health insurance and a pension, informing that the Commission had already discussed this subject with Herbert Docteur, the Minister of Agriculture.

The Minister of Social Affairs declared "...we were invited by the Senate of the Republic to come take cognizance of a bill on which they work. That bill concerns the peasant sector [...] which has no social security. The Commission believes that something must be done to protect this sector. working hard, working the land [...] so we were there to watch with them, what can be done, so that this sector is protected permanently. We all agree that the informal sector in Haiti has many problems, we understand that [...] when they are sick they can not go to the doctor, they can not go to the hospital, so they [the senators] have decided to seek solutions to the problems to whom the peasants are facing. In this bill, when the peasants are sick, they will have a social security coverage and will able to visit the doctor [...] in this sense, we encourage the work of the Commission..."
