The Ministry of the Environment (MoE) organized a national workshop dedicated to the presentation of the report Performance Review and Assessment of Implementation System) (PRAIS), the main tool for monitoring Haiti's commitments within the framework of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification. This workshop also provided an opportunity to take stock of the implementation of the Integrated Sustainable Landscape and Land Management Project (PISLM).

Let's recall that Prime Minister Fils-Aimé has made the restoration of degraded lands, the protection of natural resources and the strengthening of the resilience of communities in the face of climate change priorities of his action.

At the opening of the workshop, Valéry Fils-Aimé, the Minister of the Environment, presented the certificates to the members of the National Inter-institutional Committee for Sustainable Soil and Surface Management (CNIGSS), technical experts as well as representatives of the institutions that contributed to the development of the PRAIS report. He praised their commitment to strengthening the national environmental monitoring system and the fight against land degradation.

The meeting brought together representatives of public institutions, technical and financial partners, civil society organizations as well as national experts. Participants examined the main results of the PISLM project, whose interventions contribute to the restoration of degraded lands, the preservation of natural resources and the strengthening of the resilience of communities to the effects of climate change.

The work also focused on the presentation of the PRAIS report, developed with the support of the CNIGSS. The discussions made it possible to examine the different stages of the process of collecting, consolidating and validating national data, to formulate recommendations aimed at improving the quality of national reporting and to strengthen coordination between the institutions concerned.

The workshop was also marked by the presentation of the Reforestation Guide, a reference document intended to support forest landscape restoration initiatives, to promote reforestation practices adapted to the ecological realities of the country and to support national land restoration efforts.

Closing the work, Joseph Emmanuel Philippe, Director General of the Ministry of the Environment, praised the quality of the exchanges and invited all partner institutions to continue their efforts in order to strengthen national coordination, improve the availability of environmental data and promote good practices in sustainable land management.

Through this workshop, the Ministry of the Environment reaffirmed its desire to consolidate national environmental monitoring mechanisms, improve the quality of international reporting and accelerate land restoration actions for the benefit of the most vulnerable communities. He also renewed his commitment to working in close collaboration with all national and international stakeholders in order to sustainably preserve Haiti's natural resources and strengthen the country's resilience to the effects of climate change.
