High-level meeting with David Howell, the new Chargé d'affaires a.i. of the United States in Haiti

On Wednesday, August 5, 2026, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé met with David Howell, the new Chargé d'affaires ad interim of the United States in Haiti. This high-level strategic meeting focused on strengthening national security, restoring state authority, and consolidating institutional stability.

David Howell met with the Prime Minister and key national and international officials involved in the security response, including leaders of the Gang Supression Force (GSF) deployed in Haiti, alongside the Haitian National Police and the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAd'H).

This strategic consultation provided an opportunity to review the evolving security situation, assess ongoing operational activities, and strengthen coordination mechanisms among the various forces mobilized to sustainably restore public peace.

Discussions focused on the need for a coordinated, effective, and sustainable response to armed groups, the strengthening of operational capacities, and the measures essential for protecting the population and fully restoring state authority throughout the national territory.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed that security remains the Government's top priority and the essential foundation for political stability, economic recovery, and the strengthening of democratic institutions. He welcomed the renewed commitment of international partners to Haiti and emphasized the importance of strategic cooperation based on shared responsibility, respect for national sovereignty, and the effectiveness of actions undertaken on the ground.

The Prime Minister and the Chargé d'affaires ad interim reaffirmed the need for enhanced coordination between Haiti and its international partners to support the restoration of state authority, the consolidation of democratic institutions, and the creation of the conditions necessary for holding free, credible, transparent, and inclusive elections.
