Mental Health in Schools

On Tuesday, July 28, 2026, the Ministry of National Education officially launched the National Mental Health Strategy in Schools. This interministerial project, conducted in partnership with the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, and the Ministry of Public Health, involves their decentralized institutions: the Haitian National Police (PNH), the Institute for Social Welfare and Research (IBESR), the Directorate of School Health (DSS), and the Mental Health Unit (USM). The objective is to ensure the emotional protection of students through a preventative approach, ranging from general awareness campaigns to specialized care. Within this framework, the PNH, through its EduPOL program and the Juvenile Protection Brigade, plays a central role alongside educators and psychologists. It intervenes in both daily prevention efforts and the management of vulnerable cases and emergency situations, thus strengthening the child protection system in schools.
