Haiti - Electoral Calendar : Positive Reactions from CARICOM and the OAS 29/07/2026 08:45:21
CARICOM : The Caribbean Community Eminent Persons Group (EPG) welcomes the publication of the electoral calendar by the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-48085-haiti-flash-2026-2027-electoral-calendar-latest-official-version.html This crucial step in the electoral process, which sets the dates for the general elections, was eagerly awaited by Haitian stakeholders and the international community. The publication of this calendar will undoubtedly boost the essential preparatory phases currently underway, such as the registration of political parties, platforms, and coalitions, as well as voter registration. The Eminent Persons Group (EPG) emphasizes the importance of close collaboration between the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) and all stakeholders in the preparations for the general elections, the first round of which, covering the presidency, Parliament, and constitutional reform, will be held on December 13, 2026. The EPG also urges all stakeholders to engage in the process and contribute to ensuring compliance with all requirements and procedures so that the Haitian people can, through free and credible elections, choose their government and restore constitutional order. As the CEP stresses, improving the overall security situation is essential for the success of the electoral process. In this regard, the EPG urges countries contributing to the French Anti-Gang Force (FRG) to deploy their personnel as soon as possible to strengthen international security assistance provided to Haiti. OEA : The OEA supports Haiti’s electoral calendar, which sets presidential and legislative elections for December, seeing it as a step toward a return to democratic normalcy. On Tuesday, July 28, 2026, Albert R. Ramdin, Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), stated that the electoral roadmap recently published by Haiti represents a “significant step” as it sets the date for the presidential and legislative elections for December 13. “I welcome the publication of the electoral calendar by the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP), with a first round scheduled for December 13, 2026, and a possible second round on February 21, 2027,” he indicated in a message posted on social media. Ramdin emphasized that this calendar contributes to “the restoration of democratic and constitutional governance,” adding, “The OAS is ready to support a credible, inclusive, transparent, and secure electoral process, led by Haitians.” New Calendar and Decrees : HL/ HaitiLibre
