GSF Patrol Attacked A patrol from the Gang Supression Force (GSF) was involved in an armed confrontation with gang members on Thursday, July 22, 2026, while conducting a routine security patrol in the commune of Tabarre near an illegal checkpoint, in territory controlled by the terrorist gang Kraze Baryè. The patrol returned fire according to the rules of engagement. Three terrorists were fatally wounded. No civilians were injured. Back-to-School Preparations On Tuesday, July 21, 2026, Vijonet Déméro, the Minister of National Education, met with Geetanjali Narayan, the Representative of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Haiti, to discuss preparations for the start of the 2026-2027 academic year. "Playing for Peace, Acting Against Violence" The Karibe Convention Center hosted the official launch of the socio-sports activity weekends under the theme : "Playing for Peace, Acting Against Violence". During these socio-sports weekends, children and young people from several municipalities in the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area, including Kenscoff, Pétion-Ville, Tabarre, Cité Soleil, and Port-au-Prince, will have the opportunity to come together for various sports and recreational activities. Through these encounters, they will be able to play, exchange ideas, forge friendships, and participate in a dynamic of peace, choosing to come together around a ball rather than resorting to violence. Towards a Haitian Sign Language ? Gérard Joseph, the Secretary of State for the Integration of Persons with Disabilities (BSEIPH), accompanied by Fenel Bellegarde, its Executive Director, held a fruitful meeting with several sign language schools in Haiti. Currently, sign language instruction in Haiti is based on the American model (ASL). However, during the discussions, BSEIPH officials and school representatives explored the feasibility of transitioning to a distinct linguistic identity : Haitian Sign Language (LSH). This initiative paves the way for greater cultural appropriation and enhanced inclusion of deaf and hard-of-hearing people in Haitian society. First Annual Symposium on Haitian Creole Studies On Thursday, July 23, 2026, the Haitian Creole Academy (AKA) officially launched its first annual symposium on Haitian Creole studies in Cap-Haïtien. The symposium, themed "Graphemes, Media, and Lexical Classes in the Haitian Creole Language" will take place from July 24 to 26 and will bring together researchers, linguists, teachers, journalists, writers, students, and other users of Creole. According to the Academy, this symposium aims to foster the sharing of research, experiences, and proposals on the evolution of the Creole language, as part of its efforts to promote its scientific development and the production and dissemination of knowledge in Creole, both in Haiti and in the diaspora. Strengthening Public Financial Management As part of the Public Financial Management Strengthening Project (PREGEFIP), the deployment of the Integrated Public Financial Management System (SIGFIP) was completed this week with a four-day training session for trainers. This training aims to enable stakeholders in the public expenditure chain to master the operation of SIGFIP and to correctly apply expenditure execution procedures (commitment, liquidation, authorization, payment), in compliance with the system's integrated controls.
