UNIDO alongside Haiti for the revival of the industrial sector

On the sidelines of his official mission to Montevideo, Uruguay, James Monazard, Minister of Trade and Industry, met on July 16, 2026, with Ms. Cecilia Ugaz Estrada, Deputy Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

This meeting is a continuation of the steps taken by the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MCI) to strengthen its cooperation with UNIDO in order to support the revival of the Haitian industrial sector.

During the discussions, both parties reaffirmed their desire to develop a strategic partnership between MCI and UNIDO. They notably agreed on the carrying out of a technical study intended to support the implementation of industrial parks in the Great South, as well as on the deployment of a mission of international experts who will officially intervene as part of Industry Week in September 2026.

This technical assistance will help support MCI's efforts in developing concrete solutions in favor of industrial development, attracting investments, strengthening national capacities and creating sustainable jobs in Haiti.

As part of this same dynamic, this meeting has just concluded a particularly intense week on the diplomatic level for Minister Monazard. After an important advocacy mission to Washington with American administration officials, in order to defend the renewal of the HOPE/HELP law, the MCI holder continued his efforts in South America to promote investments, accelerate industrial recovery and create the conditions for sustainable economic growth for the benefit of the entire Haitian population.
