Haiti - Security : Canada announces $7.5 million CAD in support for the Haitian National Police

Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand, speaking on the sidelines of the Organization of American States (OAS) meetings in Panama, announced $35 million CAD to bolster security in the Caribbean, including $7.5 million to combat the violence and political chaos stemming from the gang crisis in Haiti.

This $7.5 million, allocated directly to the Haitian National Police (PNH), will fund the renovation and complete equipping of a modern training facility and the deployment of specialized tactical training programs to optimize the armed fight against gangs and terrorism.

A portion will be dedicated to directly supporting infrastructure projects in high-risk areas, focusing on the immediate reduction of community violence and strengthening local resources, with a priority on women and youth to prevent recruitment by criminal networks.

The remaining funds will be invested in combined maritime operations. The goal is to cripple the gangs' logistics by blocking the illicit trafficking of firearms and narcotics arriving by sea.
