Haiti - Economy : The DGI celebrates its 102 years of existence

On Monday June 8, 2026, the Directorate General of Taxes (DGI), created on June 6, 1924 under the government of President Louis Borno, celebrated its 102 years of existence under the theme "The DGI is modernizing to serve better".

In her speech for the occasion, Prime Minister Alix Fils-Aimé reaffirmed the Government's commitment to creating a climate conducive to investment. For his part, the Minister of Economy and Finance, Serge Gabriel Collin, reiterated his support for the DGI in order to continue reforms to modernize public administration. Chesnel François, Director General of the DGI, spoke about digital transformation, the improvement of tax tele-services and the adoption of new institutional tools for a modern, more efficient, more transparent administration, and respectful of taxpayers.

Among the international partners present, Expertise France, the European Union, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank renewed their support for the efforts to modernize the Haitian tax administration.

The Prime Minister, Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, underlined the strategic role of taxation in the functioning of the State and in the financing of public policies, particularly in terms of security, public services and national development. He also praised the efforts of executives and employees of the DGI, whose work has enabled significant progress in the modernization of administrative procedures.

The financial authorities have thus highlighted a notable performance : 58 billion gourdes were collected between October 2025 and May 2026, i.e. in 8 months, an increase of almost 10% compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed the Government's commitment to transparency, the fight against corruption and respect for taxpayers. He also recalled several strategic priorities of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, including the deployment of the Revenue Management System (RMS), the finalization of the organic law of the DGI, national consultations around the future Tax Code, as well as the development of tele-declaration and electronic payment mechanisms for taxes.

On the occasion of its 102nd anniversary, the DGI paid tribute to 25 companies distinguished as "major payers" for the 2024-2025 fiscal year.
