Body of 3 Police Officers Killed Recovered The Haitian National Police (PNH) reports that its specialized units deployed in Artibonite have recovered the bodies of three police officers (two from the UTAG and one from the BIM) and a civilian scout who lost their lives in combat on Friday, May 29, 2026, at Carrefour Robert, during a major police operation to dislodge terrorist groups. GSF Launches First Operations On Monday, June 1st, the Gang Supression Force (GSF) announced the gradual launch of its operations in the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area. No details were provided regarding the areas covered by this first phase, nor any potential operational results. However, the GSF is committed to reporting on each of its actions. This initial phase marks the beginning of a deployment expected to expand with increased personnel and logistical resources. Woodensky Pierre obtains his US visa On Monday, June 1st, 2026, the Haitian Football Federation (FHF) confirmed that Woodensky Pierre, the only Grenadier on the national football team who plays in Haiti, had obtained his US visa. He will be able to join the national team in the United States and participate in the World Cup. These projects are designed to provide students with modern, safe, and suitable learning spaces starting in the 2026-2027 academic year. The delegation visited, among other schools: Belle Rivière National School in Miragoâne, Nippes Department; Clonard National School in Cavaillon, South Department; RHE National School in Camp-Perrin, South Department; Duchity National High School; Tozia National School in Pestel; and Lory National School in Marfranc, the latter three located in Grand'Anse Department. The Apostolic Nuncio advocates amnesty and negotiations On Sunday, May 31, 2026, during a religious ceremony at Saint-Pierre Church in Pétion-ville, on the occasion of his official installation, Archbishop Jude Thaddeus Okolo, the new Apostolic Nuncio to Haiti, called for amnesty, dialogue, and negotiations as means to resolve the crisis facing the country and allow it to begin anew. Grand Poetry Recital by René Depestre On Friday, May 29, 2026, the National Book Directorate (NHL), as part of its weekly event "DNL Fridays" held a grand poetry recital in homage to the renowned poet René Depestre. This event brought together prominent figures from the diplomatic and political spheres, leading figures from the cultural and literary sectors, as well as representatives from the educational community.
