DINEPA : Monitoring of the drinking water distribution project in the Port-au-Prince Metropolitan Region

Engineer Théophil Ostinvil, Director General of the National Directorate of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DINEPA), accompanied by his technical team, conducted a site visit on May 28, 2026, to monitor the construction of the drinking water distribution network in the Port-au-Prince Metropolitan Region (RMPP). This work is financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), is part of the PAP III Program, and is supervised by the Regional Office of Drinking Water and Sanitation (OREPA-Ouest).

This inspection visit is part of the regular monitoring of projects aimed at strengthening and expanding the drinking water network in the Metropolitan Region, particularly in four municipalities: Pétion-Ville, Delmas, Tabarre, and Carrefour.

5,759 connection units have already been completed out of a total of 17,654 planned, awarded to various firms or consortia under contract with DINEPA, including the RMPP Technical Operations Center.

The affected population of the Region is reminded that this major water project must be completed by the end of August 2026 at the latest.

One of the key aspects of this initiative is ensuring strict adherence to the contractual clauses by the implementing companies. After the excavation work and the laying of the various pipes, DINEPA requires that pressure tests be successful before any road rehabilitation, in accordance with applicable technical standards.

Furthermore, DINEPA is actively working to restore the drinking water supply in several areas, particularly in Nazon, Solino, and the surrounding areas. To this end, significant decisions have recently been made regarding the repair and equipping of the Delmas 19 (Cul-de-Sac transfer station) and Nazon pumping stations, in order to make them fully operational.

Through this series of initiatives, DINEPA demonstrates its commitment to fully fulfilling its role, in accordance with the Prime Minister's instructions, to ensure that the population has better access to drinking water and sanitation.
