Diaspora : Preparations for the general elections in Haiti

On Wednesday, May 27, 2026, as part of preparations for the general elections in Haiti, the Ministry of Haitians Living Abroad (MHAVE), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP), and representatives of the National Identification Office (ONI) held a working session to define concrete mechanisms to guarantee the participation of the Haitian diaspora in the electoral process.

This session marks a historic turning point in the implementation of the electoral decree, which officially recognizes the CEP's capacity to organize elections within the Haitian diaspora community, a demand long voiced by many Haitians living abroad.

During the discussions, officials addressed several strategic issues :

Voter registration through consulates and embassies; and the progress of the citizen identification process led by the ONI. The targeting of major cities with high concentrations of Haitians to establish potential polling stations and logistical coordination with diplomatic missions.

Should be noted that Kathia Verdier, Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Haitian diaspora, continues to act as a liaison between the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) and the Haitian community abroad, with the aim of facilitating organized, credible, and inclusive participation.

As a reminder, this year's diaspora mobilization is themed : "Haiti : Security, Elections, the Diaspora Participates to Support Stability".
