The CEP Ignores the Amended Version of the Electoral Decree

The Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) states that since the official submission of the revised decree to the executive branch on April 24, 2026 (https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-47443-haiti-flash-draft-electoral-decree-revised-significant-changes.html), there has been no feedback from the government regarding the document. To date, the CEP has received no communication or requests from the executive branch concerning potential changes (https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-47501-zapping-haiti-of-may-11-2026.html). The CEP does not recognize a supposed amended version of the decree currently circulating, which allegedly contains significant modifications of which it was not informed (which is unlikely).

Gamma Laboratory Owner Shot Dead

On Tuesday, May 26, 2026, Dr. Roger Germain, owner of the Gamma Laboratory, was killed in Bourdon, near the Ministry of Planning. A shootout reportedly erupted, and the doctor attempted to flee the area before being fatally wounded in his armored vehicle. The circumstances remain unclear. Some testimonials suggest Dr. Germain was the intended target, while others claim it was a kidnapping attempt gone wrong.

Inflation Rises by 3.5% in April 2026

As anticipated by economic analysts and the Central Bank of Haiti (BRH), inflation rebounded in April 2026 following the rise in petroleum product prices on the market. The Consumer Price Index, which stood at 590.6 in March, rose to 610.5 in April, marking a sharp monthly increase of 3.4%, compared to 0.8% previously. Annual inflation now stands at 21.6%.

Appointments and Promotions at the MHAVE

As part of its policy to enhance human resources and strengthen the public administration, Kathia Verdier, the Minister of Haitians Living Abroad (MHAVE), held an official ceremony earlier this week to present letters of appointment and promotion to several dozen staff members and managers of the institution in recognition of their work accomplished with discipline, rigor, and dedication.

Food Aid Distribution

On Tuesday, May 26, 2026, the Economic and Social Assistance Fund (FAES), in partnership with the General Directorate of Civil Protection (DGPC), distributed 3,000 hot meals of rice and chicken to displaced persons as part of its Mobile Canteen operations: 500 hot meals at the new site in Bouzy, opposite the airport; 700 at the MEDIC site in Maïs Gâté; 1,500 hot meals at the Athletic Site of Haiti, Cité Soleil, and 300 hot meals at the Fontaine Site, Cité Soleil.
