Colombia : Haiti participates in an important Conference of Ministers of Labor from Latin America and the Caribbean

Marc-Elie Nelson, the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, has left the country for Colombia to officially participate in the Conference of Ministers of Labor of Latin America and the Caribbean, scheduled to take place in Bogotá, D.C., on May 21 and 22, 2026.

This high-level conference will bring together heads of State, ministers of labor, sectoral authorities, representatives of multilateral organizations, private sector actors, and international experts to discuss issues related to labor migration.

These two days will allow for the development of a cooperation framework dedicated to labor migration, decent work, and the recognition of qualifications, thereby guaranteeing the protection of migrants' rights and their socio-economic integration.

Discussions will focus on professional integration and the protection of migrants' rights; the mutual recognition of skills within the region; regulated and secure professional mobility; and socio-economic inclusion in areas with high migration density. Entrepreneurship and the informal economy; social innovation and community cohesion; and technical cooperation in vocational training.

Minister Marc-Elie Nelson will speak on the second day on the theme of "Migration and Professional Inclusion".

Furthermore, at the conclusion of this conference, the ministers present will sign the Bogota Declaration and the Multilateral Memorandum of Understanding on Dignified Labor Migration and Rights-Based Mobility in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Haiti’s participation in this event demonstrates Prime Minister Fils-Aimé’s commitment to strengthening social policies that promote the socio-economic integration of migrants and the protection of their fundamental rights.
