FLASH : Resumption of flights between Haiti and the Dom. Republic temporarily suspended

On Friday, April 17, delegations from the Haitian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Dominican Republic's Ministry of Foreign Affairs agreed to reopen the airspace between Haiti and the Dominican Republic, allowing the resumption of air links between Cap-Haitien International Airport and Dominican airports, effective May 1s5, 2026. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-47322-flash-reopening-of-airspace-between-haiti-and-the-dominican-republic.html

The resumption of flights between the Dominican Republic and Haiti, initially scheduled for May 1st, 2026, is suspended indefinitely. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports that the process of reopening the airspace to commercial flights between Haiti and the Dominican Republic is well underway.

The Civil Aviation Authority (Junta de Aviación Civil) indicated that the reopening will take place during May 2026, without specifying a date. In a statement dated May 1st, they explained that this decision follows the need to finalize a security protocol governing passenger and cargo flights between the two countries. This protocol will define measures in several areas, including health, immigration, and security.

This protocol is currently being developed by the relevant institutions of both countries, aiming to guarantee a resumption of flights under optimal conditions.

The Haitian government remains fully committed, in close collaboration with Dominican authorities, to ensuring a rapid, gradual, and safe resumption of air operations between the two countries, particularly from Cap-Haïtien International Airport.

Both countries reiterate their commitment to reopening their airspace and maintain open communication channels and bilateral dialogue, in a spirit of mutual respect and good neighborliness.

The Haitian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is committed to keeping the public informed of any relevant developments in this matter.
