500 new appointments : Haitian Gov strengthens the health system in the West

On Friday, May 1st, 2026, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé participated in a ceremony organized by the Ministry of Public Health to present 500 letters of appointment and promotion to healthcare personnel in the West Department.

The Prime Minister emphasized that "this year, May 1st resonates with particular intensity, as it is marked by the State’s concrete commitment to the healthcare system, with the appointment of 500 professionals tasked with strengthening health services in the West Department."

"Behind each letter, there is a face, a story, a dream, and a vow: to serve, to care, and to relieve suffering," he added, movingly praising the courage and determination of these women and men. "You have chosen to stay. You have chosen to answer the call. That is true courage. That is the love of Haiti."

While recalling the symbolic significance of May 1st as a day dedicated to work and national production, Fils-Aimé emphasized the inseparable links between health, security, and development: "There is no viable hospital without security. There is no prosperous agriculture without stability, and there is no dignified work without the protection of life."

He reiterated that "health is not a commodity, but a fundamental right." He also commended efforts to strengthen health centers, particularly in border areas, to better protect vulnerable populations.

Concluding by addressing the new appointees, he declared, "An entire Nation is watching you, respecting you, and thanking you. You are now at the heart of a vital commitment to the Nation."
