Joseph Almathe Pierre Louis, the Minister of Public Works (MTPTC), has mobilized resources to address the consequences of the torrential rains that struck the capital and several regions of the country.

In a context where the rains have severely strained infrastructure and exposed populations to increased risks, the MTPTC, far from passively managing the situation, has refocused its interventions, slowing down some rehabilitation projects to prioritize immediate, high-impact actions: dredging canals, clearing roads, and providing direct support to the most vulnerable local communities.

On the ground, this commitment has materialized: in Carrefour Rita, the Brisetout canal is being dredged to prevent flooding; in the Gonaïves Station area, as well as on Lamarre and Lamartine streets in Port-au-Prince, intensive dredging and manual cleaning operations are currently underway.

On National Road #3, near Morne Granjil, teams from the North Departmental Directorate of Public Works responded swiftly to major landslides. Clearing debris, removing towpaths, and righting trucks were among the actions that allowed traffic to resume on this vital artery, preventing a prolonged standstill.

In the Northwest, the response continues with ongoing operations to restore access to Anse-à-Foleur, while the link between Port-de-Paix and Saint-Louis-du-Nord was quickly re-established. In the South, despite a critical situation with the road to Jérémie cut off near Roseau, teams remain fully committed to restoring traffic as quickly as possible.

Beyond these emergency interventions, it must be acknowledged that the problems of alluvial deposits and landslides observed downstream are largely the result of poor environmental management accumulated over the years. This reality demands a change of approach : sustainable solutions must be considered upstream, through improved watershed management, to prevent the recurrence of such situations.

It is with this in mind that the Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Communications (MTPTC) is working in close coordination with the Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of the Interior, the State Secretariat for Territorial Communities, the Directorate General of Civil Protection, and the National Emergency Response Service (SNGRS).
