New electoral decree to be submitted to the Executive branch soon

The Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) is working diligently to finalize its work on harmonizing the electoral decree with the national pact for stability and the organization of elections in the context of a potential constitutional referendum. The final document could be submitted to the Executive branch next week, indicated Jacques Desrosiers, President of the CEP. He also announced that the public will be consulted on potential amendments to the Constitution during the first round of the next elections, which, according to him, are still possible this year.

30,000 asylum seekers must leave Canada

According to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), approximately 30,000 asylum seekers must leave Canada as soon as possible or risk deportation, in accordance with Bill C-12 (formerly C-2). This law concerns individuals who entered Canada after June 24, 2020, and who did not immediately file their asylum claim. However, if they filed their claim after June 3, 2025, the date the bill was initially introduced, they will be considered inadmissible, as the law applies retroactively until June 2025. The exact number of Haitian nationals affected by this law is unknown.

CORPUHA : New Board of Directors

The Ministry of Tourism welcomes the establishment of the new Board of Directors of the Conference of Rectors, University Presidents, and Directors of Haitian Higher Education Institutions (CORPUHA). Through the Haitian Hotel School, the Ministry places particular importance on strengthening the links between vocational training and the development of the tourism sector.

Northwest Rains : 5 Dead, 7 Missing

The provisional death toll from the torrential rains that struck the Northwest region has risen to 5, including four children, and 7 people are missing. According to the departmental director of Civil Protection, Frantz Monfort, more than 1,400 homes have been flooded.

Southeast : New Departmental Director of the PNH

On Friday, April 17, 2026, Divisional Commissioner Villette Appolon was installed as the new Departmental Director of Police for the Southeast. She replaces Divisional Commissioner Margalie Belnau, who served for more than 10 months at the head of the Departmental Directorate. This change is part of the Haitian National Police's General Directorate's strategy to strengthen security in the Southeast.

NOTICE Professional Identification Card

The Northeast Departmental Directorate of Commerce and Industry informs those concerned that, as part of the procedures for obtaining certificates and the Professional Identification Card issued by the Ministry of Commerce, inspections will be systematically carried out. To this end, duly authorized inspectors will verify the location of businesses and check compliance with applicable standards.
