Haiti : Spring 2026 agricultural campaign, the Ministry strengthens support for producers

As part of the 2026 spring agricultural campaign, the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development (MARNDR), through the Resilient Agriculture for Food Security Project (PARSA), intends to mobilize a significant quantity of agricultural inputs to support farmers, with a particular focus on the inclusion of women, who are expected to represent 55% of beneficiaries in the intervention areas.

This initiative primarily concerns the departments of South, Nippes, West, Grand'Anse, and Central.

To strengthen key agricultural sectors while promoting production diversification nationwide, more than 500 metric tons of seeds will be distributed to farmers.

These seeds are mainly for food crops such as rice, beans, peanuts, maize, pigeon peas, and other non-food crops.

In addition to seeds, significant support in the form of planting material is also planned. To this end, farmers will receive over 2.5 million yam seedlings; 1.3 million banana suckers; 3.5 million cassava cuttings; 78,000 dwarf coconut seedlings; and 890,000 fruit and forest seedlings.

In parallel, the Ministry is continuing its support for farming households through the establishment of 400 rabbit production units and the creation of 1,815 meat production units, including the necessary feed and veterinary products.

Significant fertilizer supplies are also planned, with 4,700 bags of chemical fertilizers and 57,848 bags of compost, to improve soil fertility and optimize agricultural productivity during the growing season.

By deploying this program for the spring campaign, which aims to reach tens of thousands of farmers, the Ministry is paying particular attention to strengthening the productive capacities of family farms. The objective is to support the various agricultural sectors in order to contribute to increased national production, sustainably improve food and nutritional security, and strengthen producers' resilience to climatic and economic shocks.
