Public Works of Haiti strengthens its partnership with the IDB

On Wednesday, March 25, 2026, as part of the roadmap follow-up, Engineer Joseph Almathe Pierre Louis, Minister of Public Works, chaired an important working session via videoconference with Ms. Corinne Cathala, Representative of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in Haiti, and her technical team.

This working session, which included the Chief of Staff, the Director General of the Ministry, and officials from the Ministry's Implementation Agency, allowed for a thorough review of the available budget, with a particular focus on areas requiring immediate release of funds:

Airport Infrastructure :

Discussions focused on the completion of the control tower and the securing of navigation equipment, essential for sovereignty and air safety;

Road Network : A progress report was conducted on the rehabilitation of strategic sections, notably National Route 7 (Cayes-Jérémie), as well as the work on National Route 4 (Léogâne-Jacmel) and National Route 1 (Ennery-Camp Coq);

Post-Disaster Repairs : The urgent need to repair the damage caused by Cyclone Melissa was placed at the top of the priority list to restore mobility in the affected areas.

One of the highlights of the meeting was the presentation of the new program for Les Cayes Airport (HA-J0014), which has three main components:

• Modernization, operations, and services of the airport;

• Improvement of road access;

• Institutional strengthening.

Expressing his concerns about the sometimes excessive implementation delays, Minister Pierre Louis advocated for a more proactive approach "The population is impatient and its needs are urgent. We absolutely must align our interventions with national priorities to guarantee concrete and rapid results," he emphasized.

This working session marks a decisive step in the drive for modernization and the implementation of the National Strategic Road Investment Plan.
