Nicknamed “holy wood” or “tree of life”, it produces magnificent blue flowers which contrast with its evergreen foliage.Historically, its resin was used to treat various illnesses, hence its medicinal name.

Due to its extremely slow growth and the exceptional value of its wood for shipbuilding or luxury crafts, the species is today classified as threatened. Its presence in dry areas of Haiti is an indicator of the health of the forest ecosystem.

Protecting Gaiac is a major act of conservation, because it represents a precious link between our medicinal history and our unique natural heritage. Its survival directly depends on the fight against wild deforestation in coastal regions.
