Haiti - Canapé-Vert : Exceptional popular and medical success of mobile clinics

As part of the celebration of International Women's Day, the Ministry of Health, with the support of the Port-au-Prince City Hall, organized two days of free medical consultations at the Canapé-Vert City Hall. Led by the mobile school and community clinic unit of the Family Health Directorate, these events were an exceptional success, both in terms of public participation and medical outcomes.

In fact, 2,200 people, primarily women and girls from the municipality, benefited from comprehensive and free care. This massive turnout demonstrates the crucial impact of these initiatives on the ground and the renewed confidence of the population in its public health system.

Beyond the numbers, these two days were marked by a profound humanization of care. The services offered ranged from general consultations and pediatrics to gynecology, breast cancer screening, psychological support, laboratory services, and a community pharmacy. Special attention was paid to mothers, with 15 pregnant women receiving prenatal consultations, and to children suffering from malnutrition.

Faced with this community mobilization, the team of 70 healthcare professionals and support staff demonstrated resilience and commitment. Despite logistical challenges, the primary objective was achieved: to treat, prevent, and refer. Two patients with complications were referred to specialized facilities for appropriate care.

For Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, this initiative embodies the close relationship his government wishes to establish with its citizens "Providing quality care to Haitian women is an investment in the entire nation. These mobile clinics are tangible proof that our government, through the Ministry of Health, is mobilizing to reach the most vulnerable, to listen to their ailments, and to respond with dignity and effectiveness. The success of Canapé-Vert reinforces our decision to expand these healthcare units throughout the country."

Dr. Sinal Bertrand, deeply involved in this initiative, commended the work of his teams and the resilience of the population: "Seeing more than two thousand women flocking to receive care is both a tremendous joy and a great responsibility. We cannot stop here. Every consultation, every blood glucose test, every word of comfort exchanged with a patient reminds us why we must constantly innovate and strengthen our healthcare system. Congratulations to the entire team mobilized for this remarkable work."

Building on this success, the Ministry intends to strengthen its collaboration with local authorities to regularly organize these mobile clinics in highly vulnerable areas, in order to sustain this inclusive community health approach.
