Haiti - Social : Dilma Rousseff authorizes the regularization of 2,400 of our compatriots in Brazil

Dilma Rousseff, the President of Brazil, authorized yesterday Tuesday, after a ministerial meeting headed by Antonio Patriota, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the regularization of the situation of 2,400 undocumented Haitians who entered illegally in Brazil. This regulation will allow our compatriots to reside legally and receive a work permit [for a period of 5 years], authorities said.

However, the government says it belongs to the Ministry of Labour, to regulate the entry of Haitian citizens. The initiative provides that the Brazilian Embassy in Haiti, will grant work permits to only for a hundred Haitians a month, upon presentation of a legal employment contract of an employer in Brazil "The Brazilian government is not indifferent to the economic vulnerability of Haitians, but those who do not have authorization to enter on the Brazilian territory, can not come," warned José Eduardo Cardozo, the Brazilian Minister of Justice, who requested the assistance of neighboring countries to control these illegal entries.

According to the Ministry of Justice, Brazil had already regularized in the year 2011, about 1,600 Haitians on the 4.000 who came in search of better living conditions after the earthquake that struck Haiti on January 12, 2010.
