GSF : The first helicopter has arrived

"The first aerial device of the GSF, a helicopter, has arrived in Port-au-Prince," announced Stéphane Dujarric, Spokesperson for the Secretary General of the United Nations, stressing that the organization is on schedule to provide support to the FRG by March 31 and support services to the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) by February 1st.

Tèt Kajak attacked at least 6 dead

Early in the morning of Friday January 30, 2026, the locality of "Tèt Kajak", municipal section of Macary, in the commune of Marigot bordering Kenscoff, junction point between the South-East and West departments was attacked by heavily armed individuals from the "Viv Ansanm" terrorist coalition. Several houses were set on fire, and businesses were looted and vandalized. The provisional report shows at least 6 deaths including a child and several injured. Massillon Jean Acting Mayor of Kenscoff confirmed that 3 brigadiers lost their lives in this attack.

Justice : Rameau Normil summoned to the Criminal Court

The former Director General of the National Police of Haiti (PNH), Rameau Normil, is summoned on Tuesday February 3rd, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. before the Criminal Investigation Chamber where he will be heard by Judge Walter Wesser Voltaire on alleged acts of criminal association and illegal sale of PNH ammunition to armed gangs. The former Central Administrative Director, Philippe Jovin, was also summoned on Monday February 2nd, at the same time, as part of the same investigation. The two former officials will have to explain in particular the disappearance of 317 rifles and the sale of several thousand rounds of ammunition belonging to the police institution.

More than 6,000 people in prison without trial

As of December 30, 2025, 7,448 people were detained in Haiti's prisons, 82% of whom were in pretrial detention (without having been tried or sentenced). In the fourth quarter of 2025, 31 prisoners died, most of them due to lack of care, unsanitary cells, insufficient food and limited access to drinking water. This brings the number of inmates who died in 2025 to 134.

Jacmel : The reconversion of the old prison is progressing

The Ministry of Culture and Communication, in partnership with the Institute for the Protection of National Heritage (ISPAN), is continuing work to renovate the former civil prison of Jacmel, intended to be converted into a craft center. The work should be completed in approximately two to three months barring unforeseen circumstances, according to Andris Wilkinson, engineer from the REB firm in charge of the work.

The OAS wants the withdrawal of the decree on freedom of expression

In a press release, the Office of the Special Rapporteur for Freedom of Expression of the Organization of American States (OAS) urges the Haitian authorities to withdraw the decree published in the official journal of December 31, 2025 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-46595-haiti-politic-the-cpt-and-the-government-decide-on-the-limits-of-freedom-of-expression.html on "press crimes" which constitutes a serious threat to freedom of expression and risks further weakening the democratic debate in Haiti.
