Bel-Air : Weapons and Equipment Seized On Wednesday, January 7, 2026, the Haitian National Police (PNH), as part of its ongoing operations in Bel-Air, seized several items, including an M-16 assault rifle, a magazine, a PNH bulletproof vest, two pairs of binoculars, a ballistic helmet, and other equipment, from a house located behind the home of gang leader "Jamesley". A man, a woman, and two children were also found in the house. PAPJAZZ Festival Opens The 19th edition of PAPJAZZ, the Port-au-Prince International Jazz Festival, is open from January 7 to 10, 2026, confirming Port-au-Prince as a vibrant hub for international jazz. For four days, the festival will bring together artists from Haiti (including its diaspora), as well as from Europe, the Caribbean, and the Americas, for a focused program blending contemporary jazz, Creole jazz, improvisation, electronic textures, and revisited traditions. We are moving forward with a process of retaking the city center. We are also working to reopen the roads to the South and North before February 7th." Climate : Trump withdraws the US from 66 organizations On Wednesday, January 7, 2026, Donald Trump signed an executive order mandating the withdrawal of the United States from 66 organizations and institutions related to climate and the environment, roughly half of which are affiliated with the UN, the White House announced. Among them is the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the foundational treaty for all other international climate agreements, concluded in 1992 at the Rio Earth Summit.
