Diaspora Remittances Up 20%

Remittances from the Haitian diaspora to Haiti reached $5 billion in 2025. This represents an increase of approximately 20% compared to 2024. More than 70% of remittances received by Haiti originate from the United States.

2026 : Treasury Bonds Available to Individuals

Alfred Fils Metellus, the Minister of Economy and Finance, announced on local television that Treasury bonds will be officially available to households by October 2026. He specified that local institutions other than banks will be able to act as intermediaries between the Ministry and economic actors.

Mario Andrésol Accuses Pierre Espérance

The office of the Secretary of State for Public Security, Mario Andrésol, rejects the allegations made by Pierre Espérance, Executive Director of the National Human Rights Network (RNDDH), linking him to Jimmy Chérisier, alias "Barbecue" leader of the criminal coalition "Viv Ansanm" claiming that Chérisier is his protégé. On Monday, January 5, 2026, in an interview on a radio station in the capital, the Secretary of State denounced these politically motivated statements, aimed at exploiting the police force and manipulating public opinion for undisclosed or unavowed purposes of causing harm, and accuses Espérance of using the RNDDH for personal gain. He states that he reserves the right to pursue all appropriate legal avenues to defend his honor and integrity.

Gérald Oriol Jr. Honored

On January 4th, 2026, Gérald Oriol Jr., the Executive Director of the J’aime Haïti Foundation, was honored by the Haitian National Sports Observatory at a ceremony held at the Kinam Hotel for his work with people with disabilities and his contribution to promoting peace through the association’s basketball training program. "We are very proud of his leadership and his dedication to creating an inclusive community where young people can develop their skills and grow up with dignity."

Environment : Agreement Signed

Last week, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the National Agency for Protected Areas (ANAP) and the Audubon Haiti National Trust Consortium to better ensure the protection and management of the Grand Bois National Natural Park (Southern Department).
