Haiti - Training : The Royal Bahamas Defence Force trains Haitian coast guards

The Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) delivered an intensive two-week capacity-building program to 20 members of the Haitian National Police (PNH) Coast Guard.

This comprehensive program, coordinated by the Port Patrol Unit's Engineering Section, covered navigation, engineering techniques, docking maneuvers, and vessel handling.

Training modules also included navigational aids, the use and deployment of distress flares, search and rescue (SAR) techniques, and onboard emergency procedures. Emphasis was also placed on advanced mechanical diagnostics, troubleshooting fuel systems, analyzing outboard motor ignition and electrical circuits, inspecting gearboxes, optimizing propulsion systems, and applying digital diagnostic tools. Participants were also trained in modern remote assistance practices, enabling mechanics from both countries to collaborate using real-time communication technologies.

Finally, RBDF engineers provided guidance on several recurring technical issues affecting PNH Coast Guard vessels.
